Plant of the Week:

The Azalea? Now?

Such GLORY of lime green in the middle of all the brown, And the pink stems are pretty cool, right?

I don’t whether it’s because I have been less busy than normal (I know, Christmas is a buy season, but it’s LESS busy after you sell your business and reduce your podcast load by half) or the color is better than it has ever been but I am loving on my azaleas right now.

Non-native (but also non-invasive) this is a rather ubiquitous shrub that one generally associates with spring color. This late fall foliage is almost as impressive and since it comes at a time when much of the garden is brown, it’s very welcomed.

We’ve got the yellow, the burgundy, and this burnt orange type of thing. They look fabulous!

Painting and Plant Pairing

from

Karen Blair

You heard me mention my friend Karen Blair on the pod this week. Karen is a Charlottesville based painter whose work I know you would love. She is known for her joyous use of color. Her own garden and those of friends inspire the flowers and trees that are prevalent in her paintings.

I am so excited to have this partnership with Karen, and each week I feature here one of her paintings with a corresponding garden photo! Follow this link to see more of her paintings.

And follow her on Instagram here.

Ginny thinks the cairn she built is delicious.

Susan Nock runs a garden design business in Wellesley, Massachusetts, that specializes in container gardening. Christmas time is one of favorite times for pulling together sophisticated looks for clients, and maybe more last minute and naturally foraged looks for her own home.

Susan came Into the Garden with Leslie to talk all about what we can do to spruce up our front doors for Christmas, and she includes some easy last minute hacks!

The Play List

This is how they do it at Great Dixter. Packaged bananas— I don’t know if they get fruit. I should ask.
